FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Picture
1. How many guests will the sanctuary seat?
The sanctuary will seat 200 guests. The church has historic “pew boxes.”

2. What days of the week are available for weddings?
Any day of the week, except Sundays, are available for wedding ceremonies.

3. What time can we have our rehearsal and ceremony?
Your rehearsal and ceremony can be at any time that works for you and the church wedding team. Most ceremonies are held in the late afternoon or early evening, with the rehearsal on the afternoon of the day before.

4. How long does the rehearsal last and who should attend?
Plan on an hour for the rehearsal. Everyone involved in the ceremony, parents, and grandparents (if available) should plan to attend the rehearsal–bridesmaids, groomsmen, reader(s), flower girl(s), ring bearer(s), etc.

5. How long does the ceremony last?
The typical ceremony lasts around 30 minutes.

6.  How big (or small) can our bridal party be?
Your bridal party can be as large or small as you want. Ten total attendants (i.e., four  bridesmaids, four groomsmen, the maid/matron of honor, and the best man) will fit comfortably around the church altar, but we do not, however, limit the number of attendants that you may have.

7. May we use another organist or other musicians for our wedding?
The Huguenot Church Organist is the only musician approved for weddings at the Huguenot Church. Other musicians may join him, but only with his approval. For example, you may wish to have a trumpeter play the Trumpet Voluntary along with the Organist.

8.  How can our florist get into the church on the day of the wedding?
The florist can arrange to deliver the flowers an hour and a half prior to the wedding when the Wedding Director is there, or they can arrange to pick up a key during office hours prior to the wedding. They will need to call the office two weeks in advance to arrange this. Also, if you are picking up keys for your own use, you may choose to meet the florist at the church.

9. Do we have to give you the time of the rehearsal and wedding now, or can we call you with that information later?
You may call us with the final times later, but we do request that you let us know as soon as possible and at least within one month of your wedding date.

10. How do we get the keys for the Bridal Suite/44 Queen and when should we return the keys?
Keys for the Bridal Suite/44 Queen and the sanctuary may be picked up at the church office at 44 Queen Street from 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the wedding, or they will be given to you at the rehearsal. A $50.00 deposit is required for keys. The deposit check will be voided upon their return.

11. How long do we have access to the Bridal Suite/44 Queen?
You will have access to the Bridal Suite/44 Queen as early as you want/need on your wedding day. All belongings must be removed from 44 Queen and the church immediately after the wedding. The cleaning crew will be coming in to clean after the wedding. We suggest that someone be assigned to do this that will not be in the pictures taken afterward. After belongings are removed, please return the keys to the Pastor or Wedding Director immediately.

12. Can the groom and groomsmen get dressed and ready at 44 Queen?
It has been our experience that having the groom and groomsmen get ready offsite works better and gives the bride and her bridesmaids full use of the facility.

13. May we seat people in the balcony?
No wedding guests may sit in the balcony. Only musicians, photographers and videographers may use the balcony.

14. If I am having a small wedding, must I use the Church Wedding Director?
The Wedding Director is a requirement unless you will have absolutely no attendants, less than 20 guests, and no special seating arrangements are necessary.

15. Where can we place our guest log?
Guest logs are not allowed in the narthex or outside the church. Extremely long lines are the result, making seating, etc., very difficult.

16. Can we light a unity candle?
Yes. We have the unity candlesticks, but do not provide candles. You would need to bring one three-inch white candle and two two-inch white tapered candles to the rehearsal.

17. Will you serve Holy Communion?
We will serve Communion to the couple only.

18. What size are the altar flower vases?
The church does not have appropriate wedding vases. You may choose to use your own vases or vases from the florist. Please tag the bottom of the vases with your name and phone number so that we may be sure that the proper vases are returned to you.

19. Are there any other decorating guidelines?
Decorations may only hang from the pews and may not mark, puncture, or in any way harm the pews or church. No glass containers may hang from the pews. The gate to the church may be decorated as well. Church furniture and fixtures may not be moved.

20. What can be thrown inside or outside the church as the couple leaves?
The flower girl may throw rose or flower petals inside the church. Flower petals or bubbles may be used outside. Rice and birdseed are not allowed due to the danger of someone slipping and falling.
