Keys may be picked up at the church office at 44 Queen Street from 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the wedding. A $25.00 deposit is required for keys, which will be refunded upon their return. Please call at least two weeks in advance to schedule a time for key pickup.
Members of the Church of a year or longer are not charged a rental fee for any use of the church building or 44 Queen. You have to be a church member for at least one year before you can set a date for your wedding.
INSURANCE: The French Protestant (Huguenot) Church must be named as Additional Insured on a Special Events Policy with both locations, 136 Church Street and 44 Queen Street, listed on the policy. A COI for Special Events Policy must be provided to the church office prior to the rehearsal. Most locations used for Rehearsal dinners and Receptions will also require a Special Events Policy. However, if you need assistance obtaining this policy please contact the church office.
WEDDING DIRECTOR: The church requires that you use our Director for your wedding. Ms. Leigh Amrhein is the Director for all weddings at the Huguenot Church. Her fee is $500.00. This includes a consultation before the wedding and being present at the rehearsal and two hours before the wedding. Ms. Leigh Amrhein, can be reached at 843-270-1985 or [email protected]. For planning purposes, please contact Ms. Amrheim as soon as you have made the decision to use our church. Should you employ an outside wedding planner, it must be understood that Ms. Leigh Amrhein will still be in charge at the rehearsal and at the ceremony.
MUSIC: As a Christian congregation the Huguenot Church considers a wedding to be a service of worship. Consistent with that understanding, the selection of appropriate music shall be made under the guidance and direction of our wedding organist, Mr. George Hiatt. The fee for his service is $500.00. He may be contacted at (843) 296-8901 or at [email protected].
Please be advised that the use of pre-recorded music of any kind, including accompanying tracks, is not permitted. Further, music requiring amplification either inside the building or outside will not be permitted. Arrangements for additional musicians should be made only after consulting with our Wedding organist.
The placement of musical selections within the ceremony shall be decided in consultation with the officiating minister.
OFFICIANT: One of our ministers, the Reverends David Woody or Phil Bryant, will officiate at all weddings at the French Protestant (Huguenot) Church. Should you desire that another minister assist, please inform the church office and the invitation will be extended by the church. The minister's fee for a wedding consultation, rehearsal and wedding is $500.00. Our church officiants fee will still be $500 even if you are using a guest officiate as they will still be present on site and be there to assist the guest officiant. To contact the ministers, please call the church office or you may email Pastor Woody at [email protected].
MARRIAGE LICENSE: The Marriage License is to be given to the minister on the night of the rehearsal. Applications must be made 48 hours in advance of pickup at the Marriage License Bureau. They are located at 100 Broad Street (downtown) and may be reached at (843) 958-5182. the appropriate copies of the Marriage License will be mailed from the church office to the Judge of Probate after the wedding.
FLOWERS: The church requests the flowers used in (double containers) on the altar for the wedding be left for the church service the following day. The Sunday bulletin will announce that the flowers are a gift from the (named) married couple of the day or night before, unless a member of the church donates flowers.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Professional photographers and videographers are expected to comply with instructions from the wedding director and minister. We also suggest that you inform your guests, perhaps by including a request in the program, that there will be no flash photography during the service.
RESERVING THE FACILITIES: The fee for use of the church is to be paid at the time of booking, or mailed to the church office, and is non-refundable, as the church has reserved this time for you exclusively. The only exception would be a natural disaster or death to a principal member, declared in writing to the Board of Directors. All other fees for the Organist, Director and Pastor (and any other costs incurred) must be paid by check made out to each individual and delivered or mailed to the church office for arrival at least two weeks prior to the rehearsal.
We have found that wedding weekends are much less stressful for the couple and all parties involved when fees are paid, and details handled in advance. Please note that, until the fee for use of the church is received, your wedding is not booked, only tentatively reserved. Therefore, please let us know as soon as you have made a decision.
If the time of your wedding and/or rehearsal changes or the wedding is canceled or postponed, it will NOT be validated until the church office is contacted.
The mailing address of the church is 44 Queen Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The street address of the church is 136 Church Street on the corner of Church and Queen Streets.
It is our hope that these simple procedures are understood and agreeable. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact the church office at (843) 722-4385 or at [email protected]. We hope that your time associated with our church will be rewarding and enjoyable and if you are not a member, you will join us at every opportunity.
